Broadband comparison

12 month broadband contracts

A year can be a useful planning horizon: long enough to settle in, without committing for two years. The important question is whether a 12 month deal fits both your address and the time you expect to stay there.

Choose your address on the next step to check available offers.

Match the contract dates to your plans. A twelve month tenancy and a twelve month broadband term may still finish on different days.

Start with the end date, then compare the price

If you are renting, look at when your service would actually begin. Ordering after moving in means the broadband term may run beyond the tenancy. Ask how moving home or leaving early would be handled before you sign.

Make a simple yearly budget that includes setup, delivery and any price changes set out in the offer. Compare packages with similar speeds and features so a cheaper headline price is not hiding a service that will not suit the household.

Consider the setup effort for a one year stay

A new connection may need an engineer visit and access to the building. Check the proposed activation date and get permission for work where needed. If you work from home, plan how you will stay connected while the new service is being installed.

For shared homes, agree who will hold the account, how bills will be split and what happens if someone leaves. The person named on the contract should understand the commitment rather than relying on an informal promise from housemates.

Put a review date in your calendar

Keep a copy of the contract summary and set a reminder before the minimum term ends. Check the price that applies afterwards and compare again using your current needs. You may have changed jobs, added a TV subscription or found that you use less speed than expected.

Questions before you compare

Are twelve month deals always available?

The selection depends on the property and the offers supplied by the comparison partner. Check the results for your address rather than assuming every provider offers a one year option.

Should I choose twelve or twenty-four months?

Compare the full costs alongside how certain you are about staying. A lower monthly bill is less useful if the commitment runs far beyond your plans.
